Have you taken the time to sit down with your mom and ask her what she’d really like for Mother’s Day? Chances are, she’s not looking for another store bought candle or bath salts from the mall. And if that’s what she’s telling you, you might want to dig deeper and get a little creative, because there’s something she’d probably appreciate much much more!
Whenever I ask my mom what she wants for the holidays or her birthday, she usually tells me something cheap and easy like fake jewelry or bath stuff. She tells me something that she knows I’ll be able to easily find and afford, because she doesn’t want to be a hassle for her kids around the holidays. Even when I’m trying to do something special for her, she is thinking of me.
Because that’s the way mothers are. They’re always putting their kids and family before themselves. They’re constantly going without to make sure their kids have everything they need. They selflessly devote all of their time and energy to their family. So when it comes to finding the perfect Mother’s Day gift, it can be quite a challenge. How can we possible say thank you for all that our mothers do for us?
Because let’s face it, what moms really treasure and appreciate are things that can’t be bought with money. When I finally get my mom to admit what she really wants, it’s not something from the store. What she usually wants is nothing more than to spend time with her kids who are grown and gone. And she’s not the only mother who wants something that can’t be bought at the mall. For example:
- The mother of a new baby would love an extra hour of sleep.
- The mother of busy teens would appreciate someone else covering the carpool for the week.
- The mother whose children have left the nest would be so grateful for a lunch date with her kids.
- The working mother wants nothing more than for someone else to cook dinner.
- The stay-at-home mother would love to get out of the house.
Are you noticing a trend? None of these are gifts that can be bought in a store! Because here’s the thing, though your mom will be so grateful no matter what you give her, chances are she doesn’t really need another commercial product to fill her home. So how do we give her these special gifts that can’t be wrapped with ribbon or put in a box? How do we show our appreciation and make her feel so special and loved?

That’s where free Mother’s Day coupons come into play! I love to give coupons for holidays and special occasions, because not only can you completely customize and personalize them, but they’re also a great option if you’re on a budget. Sometimes it’s the littlest things that mean the most.
I created these free Mother’s Day coupons as a way for you to give your mom a really unique gift that you can’t get just anywhere. You can print them out and fill them in with whatever you want. You can make them totally unique to her interests and desires, and put something on there that will mean the world to her.
To assemble the coupon book, print it out on some nice card stock and cut out the coupons. Punch two holes in the side, and tie it together with ribbon or twine. Fill out the coupons, and you have a wonderful Mother’s Day gift that didn’t cost you a cent!
Before filling out the Mother’s Day coupons, take a minute and think of what matters most to your mom. Is it spending quality time with her family? Is it escaping from the household chores? Is it getting a break and taking some time for herself? What would she just be so grateful for? Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Mani/pedi date
- Lunch/dinner date
- Taking over her most-dreaded chore
- Giving her time to herself
- Taking her to her favorite restaurant
- Enjoying her favorite outdoor activity together
- Making her favorite meal and dessert
- Going to a movie she wants to see

Let’s be honest, what is she more likely to remember and talk about years from now… that new apron you bought her or the time you cooked dinner for her all week long? Giving her something special and from the heart is what she really deserves and what she really wants, and you can use these free Mother’s Day coupons to do just that!
If you’d like to do something special in addition to the coupons, consider making her day even more special by getting creative and DIYing your own Mother’s Day gifts. Those DIY gifts are so much more special and personal than anything you can buy in the store, and she’ll treasure your handmade creation for years to come, because no matter how perfect or imperfect it may be, it was made by you!
The most important thing to keep in mind when putting together your Mother’s Day gift is to make sure it comes from the heart! Keep her interests and desires in mind, and remember that the best gifts are often not the ones wrapped in paper and bows. Think outside the box and you’ll have a unique Mother’s Day gift that your mom will appreciate and remember for many years!

Celeste I love this post because it’s so accurate! The suggestions were perfect. If only my kids were old enough to understand this ;-).
Thanks so much, Heather! Perhaps a few well-placed comments to your husband might help your family get the hint! 😉

Hi Celeste! I’m stopping by to gush about how awesome these printables are. LOVE them!! I may leave the link for these in random places around the house so my husband with get the idea. =) Oh and by the way, you are my pick for the Welcome Home Wednesday Feature! I look forward to seeing more of your posts in the future!
Thanks so much for the feature, Lyn! Lol I love your idea of dropping hints to your husband. A text or email with the link doesn’t hurt, either! “Whoops, the kids must have gotten a hold of my phone!” Haha!
Love this idea! I wouldn’t mind receiving some of these! Thanks for sharing your idea at Craft Frenzy Friday on Mom Home Guide!
Thanks so much, Lauren! I think every mother could use a bunch of these, right?!
Celeste you come up with the most original things. I like the one that says “the most dreaded chore” and I immediately thought that I have to wash the windows tomorrow. Can I ask the kids for an early mother’s day gift? lol This is truly a great idea and you know us well, because most times we don’t care about store bought gifts. Thanks again for joining us at Sweet Inspiration.
Thanks so much, Mary! I would definitely put that window washing on your Mother’s Day wish list! If your family needs an added nudge, you could even print the coupons out and “accidentally” leave them on the kitchen counter, haha! 😉
